With the settlement of 65 Harvest Home Road on 31st July 2015, the planning for the masjid is expected to start in early 2016. A generous area of 60 metres by 30 metres has been allocated for the masjid building. The masjid is planned to be a double story building, providing facilities for both men and ladies. The construction of the masjid will be a major milestone for Barakah and a further realisation of our mission to build for the benefit of the ummah.
“Whosever builds a Mosque for Allah, then Allah will build for him a similar house in Paradise.” (Sahih Bukhari)
In the past, the community has donated generously for the renovation and maintenance of our current Musalla. Now we are finding that despite the recent extensions, we are quickly running out of space for both the students and the community. The cost to construct the much needed toilets and proper wudhu facilities attached to the current Musalla will only be a temporary and expensive measure. This 160 year old heritage protected bluestone barn is now showing limitations to the types of modifications we can make on it. We believe it is time we start making plans to move out of the barn and into a pleasant and comfortable environment of a purpose built Mosque fit for worship .
A group of our teachers passionate about getting this project underway have started on the first of many dedicated projects inshaAllah in relation to this Masjid fundraising and have called it “Many Journeys, One Mission”. They have already started to pour their money and time into this project.
The goal is to raise $30,000 by October so that we can proceed to the design phase. This first project will involve sending home a charity can for each family at the College. Overall, the cost of the Mosque is estimated at $4M.
